Substation
One day in the summer, my cousin, Braden, wanted to take me to the substation to go riding. I had never been to the substation and wanted to go for the first time. I drove to Braden’s house because his dad was going to take us there.
Me and Braden’s friend, Keagan was also going riding with us and met up with us at Braden’s house. Braden and I both ride four wheelers, and Kegan rides Braden’s dad’s dirt bike. We loaded everything onto Braden’s dad’s trailer and headed into Eden.
We were going into Eden because we were going to meet up with our other friend, Jerrod. “When we got to his house, we asked if he wanted to go riding,’’ he said yes.
When he got his dirt bike ready to go, we all told him, “Ride a wheelie down this street.”
He said, “Sure.’’ “I will try.” He got in the middle of the road while we were all in Braden’s pickup and watched.
Jerrod gassed it and got his front tire off the ground, but then he accidently let go of the handle bars, and his dirt bike shot out from under him and fell over. So did Jerrod. We made sure he was okay, and he got up fine. We all died laughing because it was a total fail. Jerrod got up because he was alright and started laughing with us. After he got his dirt bike back and running, we drove out to the substation, with Jerrod following us on his dirt bike.
We finally got to the canal bank that lead us to the substation. It was my first time out at the substation, and it looked fun. There were big jumps and whoops to ride on. There was only one problem. It was very dusty. This didn’t seem like a big deal, but it would cause something to happen later on.
We unloaded the two four wheelers and the dirt bike and started riding. I was having fun on all the whoops and jumps. We were driving down a trail. It was really dusty, and I was following Braden. There was a turn with a rock, and I turned. The front tire of the four wheeler got caught on the rock, and I turned sideways and flipped my four wheeler over. I probably shouldn’t have been following so close, that way it wouldn’t have been so dusty and I wouldn’t have flipped
I got up because I was alright and flipped my four wheeler back over. Jerrod came up behind me. I told him I flipped it. Jerrod and I started laughing. I was a little overwhelmed, but I was good. Jerrod was a little mad because it flooded his carbonator when it tipped over, but he got it started again. I got on and started riding again.
A little bit later, I decided I wanted to ride Jerrod’s dirt bike. I had never ridden a dirt bike. I knew the basics and decided to try it. I was able to start going and was doing pretty well riding around and getting the hang of things.
I was riding on this trail. It was all rutted out, and I was riding between two tire marks. I thought it was going to be a bad idea, and I was right. I kept riding until the rut got thinner and thinner and finally tipped over.
I got up and lifted the bike off me. I was fine. Jerrod came over and made sure I was ok, but it wasn’t anything big, so we just laughed about what happened. That day, I learned that if you just get up and keep going, everything will be okay and you have a good time. Luckily, no one got hurt that day. We all had fun doing what we loved to do. We loved to go riding with our buddies.
That day, I did exactly that. No matter what happened, I kept going and had an awesome time with my friends. The same thing happened with Jerrod. He crashed, but he got back up and kept going. We all had fun that day and have loved going to the substation ever since.

Narrative Reflection Questions
Answer all questions with complete, grammatically correct sentences. Be specific and thoroughly address each question.
- List one thing you've learned from writing this paper that you can apply to other writing assignments. What will that look like?
I learned how to use dialogue when writing this paper. - Identify a specific revision you were asked to make and explain why (this can be at any stage of the writing process). How did you revise? What did you learn? When I had someone talking but I didn't put in quotations, I put it in quotations and learned that was a dialogue.
- What are the conventions of a narrative and how did you meet those in this assignment? In this assignment I used description and dialogue.
- Given more time to work on this assignment, how would you improve it? I would have spent more time adding commas.
- What is one thing you're proud of in this paper?
My use of dialogue.
